The best way to counteract this is to have an Absence Management Policy in place distating the actions required for employees who are off sick. Do not accept texts as a means of communicating sick eave.As simple as that.

I remember Roundy at the Priory Tennis Club and as a neighbor in Viceroy Close. He was terrific and had such a lovely smile for all. His Mother would boast of Roundies love of smoked salmon to my Mother. To be missed for sure. Such a mensch.

Couldn't agree more. My advice is always to listen more than you broadcast; to get a flavour of the topics and strong voices before wading in and trying to stamp authority all over a conversation.

However, the problem, as you have pointed out is the 'value' of using social media. First everyone needs to be aware that this is part of the companies comms strategy and secondly it is not a set of tick boxes which will double sales in 6months.

There also needs to be an understanding that social media is a tool just like a telephone and email, meaning everyone should have access to them, and that effective use of social media isn't a phase for a fad. Long-term vision and commitment is required to truly benefit.

To achieve the above an internal cultural change may be required first.

The busy lives of CEOs, mean their ability to monitor and react immediately to conversation and discussions is limited. Therefore, we (social media professionals) should press CEOs to educate and empower as many staff as possible to operate for and on behalf of the company in social spaces at the base level: Facebook, blogs, youtube, flickr...

whilst middle management and corporate engagement/marketing teams should concentrate on middle ground social spaces like Twitter & blogs...

leaving CEOs and senior management to focus on listening tools like RSS Feeds and relevant linkedin groups and similar professional networks & conversations.

Good topic - Mark

To be honest I think it was great PR; people are really talking about the Kismot Killer now, all over the world :) A few of my friends tried it last year, I've written a blog post on it for anyone interested in seeing some Scottish boys failing to eat spicy food... http://www.jemmaeatworld.com/2011/10/kismot-killer-indian-edinburgh-hottest-curry/

Thanks for this informative article. I think that structure is important as much to remind us of where we are in the sales 'process'. But it is also important to critique and review our own part in how we sell or develop business. Development moves at different speeds and we cannot always predict when development becomes implementation.A recent review of a clients sales process revealed the assumption that sales were the only way of deriving new business. Our client, an SME, started asking more questions and has become a sounding board to previously silent clients. I agree with persistence in development but businesses are changing all the time. They may manufacture or serve but the environment is always changing which influences them and whether they buy. A good supplier is like a good reconnaissance scout. The buyer comes to rely upon and be influenced by this forward party.

I just read of Roundy's death and I am shocked. I loved so much about him. His humor, his passion, his knowledge and kindness. I always looked forward to his trips to USA. I cannot tell you how much I will miss him.

My heart sank when I opened your Rudell Memorial Fund Charity Event invitation. I remember Roundy as one of the most generous, kind and caring person I have ever met. He will be sadly missed by many. My heart goes out to you Ricky. Sadly I will not be able to come over for the event but will be thinking of you all on that evening. Kind regards, Rosemarie
